After School Shenanigans
Holy cow it's been a long time since my last 10 on 10 post with this awesome group of ladies. It's tough to get 10 images of my boys together these days, they're growing up so fast and life just seems to be zooming by. I'm happy to get back to it though, I'm going to do my damnedest to keep it up again. I want to remember them at every stage, right now they are 10, 7, 5 and their sister/friend/neighbor Katherine is 7 as well.
This winter has been ridiculously warm. This particular day in February it got up to 60 degrees, I'm sure that has nothing to do with global warming though, that's just a farce.
All black and white seemed fitting because even though it's warm, it is dreary and ugly in the mid-west right now.
The day we found this cozy tree farm, is the day a little girl's dream of cutting down her own tree since she was little, came true. I'm talking about me, I don't have a little girl, only three precious boys. Getting "the tree" is my favorite tradition we have as a family. I imagine going with the boys when they are grown, maybe with their wives and their kids...probably wishful thinking, but you never know... and only if I like their wives.

My Dearest Adrik,
Today you are 5 years old and you fill my heart with so much love and gratitude. You are a hilarious, smart and creative little man. You make us all laugh. This year you will be starting kindergarten and I know you will make so many friends and win the heart of your teacher with your sweetness.
You love to dance, you love dinosaurs and you especially love the Force Awakens.
I love to watch you play. You set up all of your army guys, Star Wars squinkies, and dinosaurs to battle, you have an incredible imagination. You are rebellious and shy at the same time and when your heart is hurt, you feel it deeply.
For our birthday date you wanted to go to COSI, it's your favorite place to play. We ate at First Watch, then COSI, Jenni's for ice cream and ended at the fountains as it was such a hot day.
It was a magical day, with lots of chatter. You never stop chattering and I love that, I hope it never stops.
My hope for you is that you will always live to laugh and love as you do right now. Daddy and I are so proud of you and we will always be here to listen to all you amazing stories and dreams.
I love you more than all the stars in the sky my sweet boy.
I cherish the warm summer nights when we wait until dusk to catch these magical little bugs. We've done this every summer since they could first walk and yet still, every time they light up their bottoms, they giggle their wonderful little boy giggles. These are the moments that I hope will be ingrained in their memories forever, and a tradition that they pass onto their children.
My Dearest Kaiden,
Today you have hit the double digits, and my heart is full of emotions. You are becoming everything that I have always hoped and have known you would become. You are a natural leader that everyone loves and wants to follow. I remember when you were little you felt things so deeply, and that hasn't changed as you grow.
You love football and basketball, Daddy and I love to watch you play. I love that you love to read and you are an amazing big brother. You are stubborn like your mama at times, but I think that will give you courage to stand up for yourself as you go through life. We have so many amazing adventures ahead of us and I embrace each memory that we make with you.
You love adventures and history, and so the Olentangy Caverns was a perfect spot for our birthday date. You have always carried an old soul with you, and the history of the Wyandotte Native Americans really intrigued you. It was a perfect day spent talking and exploring. I will always be here for you to tell your stories, hopes and dreams. Please never stop dreaming and going after those dreams, because this life is short, and my hope is that you will always be happy, kind and empathetic. Daddy and I are so proud of the sweet 10 year old you have become.
I love you more than all the stars in the sky.
My Dearest Kk,
How is it that you are seven already? I think back to when you were little, and it doesn't seem all that long ago. The years are flying by, but that's okay, because we have had and will have so many more amazing moments together. Sometimes I watch you creating, dancing or playing soccer and it makes my heart skip a beat. You are sweet, feisty, a bit stubborn and you hate to be rushed or told what to do. You are honest and upfront with everyone and I love that about you.
You continue to be an amazing soccer player, it comes so naturally for you. Your dream is to play for the Columbus Crew and if you dream it and go after it, then it will happen. I look forward to the day that Daddy and I are in the stands cheering you on at the Crew Stadium.
Our birthday date is my favorite day of the year. To have you all to myself for the day, is such a blessing, you are a blessing. I love hearing your hopes, dreams and worries. Know that I am always here for you, and I will love you unconditionally for the rest of my life.
My hope for you is that you continue to be affectionate, balanced and gentle. You make Daddy and I so proud everyday.
There are many amazing adventures ahead of you because you are so incredibly special.
I love you more than all the stars in the sky.
This is our favorite watering hole to visit in the summer. We usually take an evening at the tail end of summertime because the water is warm. It dawned on my on a warm 70 degree day in October, that we hadn't made it down this summer.
So we put on our rain boots and headed down to the creek.
It felt familiar, but different. The boys still love to explore and skip rocks, but Kaiden is getting so old. After a half an hour or so, he was ready to go, I'm sure partly due to the fact that his socks were soaked.
But nevertheless, we made it down, for one more year and made memories.
Head on over and see Janine's
lovely everyday in her Tasmania home.
Sometimes it feels a little dishonest to share our story telling type images to be honest, because despite the happy appearance, we're not singing "Kumbaya" some days. Pictures tell a story, but only a glimpse of the story really. We capture what we see or what we want to see, but not always the whole truth. We have A LOT going on right now, trying to make some dreams happen and all...it's stressful most days.
It had been a trying week, with a lot going on, we were all looking forward to running away and getting lost in nature for a bit. So, we went camping, like we do from time to time, and for the most part it was crummy. The boys are at an age where they are constantly nit-picking and whining and pushing each others, and Eric and my buttons all . the . time.
Normally, this type of trip does it for us, but not this time. There were time outs in a camping chair, there were tears shed by them and me and I wonder how I will view this post 2, 4, 6, years down the road.
I just don't know really, I suppose we will remember roasting marshmallows for s'mores, hearing owls hooting in the morning from our tent and finding a walking stick on our car, just as we were heading home.
Yeah, I'll choose to remember that.
We've traveled to a lot of places, but up north really holds a special place in our hearts. For us, northern Michigan is a magical place. We have memories of taking Kai when he was just 2 years old to the Dunegrass Festival in Empire, where his little brother was conceived. We've been to South Haven when we had only two little boys. Going to Grand Haven this year with our best friends and their little boy, was one of the best trips yet.
There was no television watching, no video game playing, just playing in the sun, water and dunes.
They just keep getting better and better and we're not stopping any time soon.
Next up is Miss Nicole Dina
, she is from Colorado and is amazing. Go have a look at her gorgeous story.
