After School Shenanigans
Holy cow it's been a long time since my last 10 on 10 post with this awesome group of ladies. It's tough to get 10 images of my boys together these days, they're growing up so fast and life just seems to be zooming by. I'm happy to get back to it though, I'm going to do my damnedest to keep it up again. I want to remember them at every stage, right now they are 10, 7, 5 and their sister/friend/neighbor Katherine is 7 as well.
This winter has been ridiculously warm. This particular day in February it got up to 60 degrees, I'm sure that has nothing to do with global warming though, that's just a farce.
All black and white seemed fitting because even though it's warm, it is dreary and ugly in the mid-west right now.
If you give a toddler a muffin...he might just eat it in a box...naked.
I love the age of 3.
He has his fits.
But he worships the ground I walk on.
He tells me "Mama, you're so beautiful."
I know this stage is fleeting.
He still loves to pretend.
I love that he will turn a cardboard box into a make believe land...while eating his muffin.
Now please pop over and see the very talented Melissa Weicker's
work....I LOVE her work.
I don't even know where to begin with this family.
They are just amazing.
I was lucky enough to be there when they brought Shanbu home from Ethiopia. I shot their arrival at the airport.
They asked me a year later to shoot the arrival of their daughter Kalkidan.
I was in tears for both shoots.
The adoration that I feel for them is indescribable. I don't know if I could do what they did.
I did a back flip when Marina contacted me to do a tree decorating session.
It will be Kali's first Christmas in the U.S.
All of my sessions sit very close to my heart.
But this one bore a hole deep down.
To see these two babies healthy and full of life, really tugged at my heart strings.
here are the Parkers', the handsome fur baby is Brutus.
I got totally lost getting to the Browns session, via Mapquest.
Eric always shames me for using the untrustworthy app and for not using a conventional map.
I'm glad I made it though, it was a simply gorgeous night, the moon was almost full.
I always get told that my boy should have been little girls because they are pretty, I take it as a compliment.
That's the case with Carter as well, he is such a pretty boy.
They are the sweetest family, and their dog was just awesome.
Frankie is considered the second son in the family. ;)
meet the Browns.
They are such a great family. I loved documenting their "everyday traditions."
they do sparkling grape juice toasts.
they love dance parties...a lot.
they have special books that they read together.
all I could think while I was in their home, was what amazing memories their girls will have of these everyday moments together.
here's a little slice of the Hariga's life.
This is what this amazing senior wrote on her questionnaire when I asked:
What is one thing you'd like to do when you graduate?
"For a very long time I have been going to Haiti as a sort of selfish vacationer on a private part of the island, and I have been looking at the islanders as just additions to my vacation.
But, I would love to go there someday and give them the help that they need instead of taking from them as a part of my ‘vacation experience.’ In the future, even if it isn’t Haiti, I would love to be a teacher for children in a country where children often times do not get to learn.
I would love to experience the promise that so many undiscovered children in less fortunate countries have and play a part in getting them out of their poor situations, or at least providing some improvement.
This is a recent desire for my life, but I want to be a missionary and give people a chance at a wonderful life.
Growing up, I have had a wonderful life, and I haven’t deserved any of it, so I want to give it all back by being used for the lives of people no matter what way that may be!"
In addition to being an amazing artist she has a pretty big heart and I loved that about her.
It was so great to be invited into her personal space and to see her work.
I know she will do amazing things in her life and I wish her the very best.
Allie and I have known each other since our days in Athens, Ohio. We would be out until the wee hours in the morning waiting for my hubs and her boyfriend at the time to finish playing with their bands. Those were the good ole days.
Now our lives are filled with little boys who melt our hearts.
I loved stepping into her home with her beautiful boys .
Oh and her best friend's name is Ali too....crazy. ;)
meet the millers.
"Freeway" kinda stole the show
I remember when I went away to college. The feeling of freedom was exhilarating.
Then, after a month.. I missed my mom.
I have a feeling Anya has the same relationship with her mom.
It is such an amazing time in life.
she is artistic.
she loves Mojo, the cat.
she loves her brother.
she loves her family.
she will do great things.
To be welcomed into a clients' home is an amazing experience, a gift really, for both parties.
I get to use their intimate space as a backdrop and they come out with real life, story moments captured.
That's why I love lifestyle sessions, the honesty of them.
Meet the Peddicords.
This is the time in their life when they brought home little John.
I have made it a priority to slow down this school year.
I don't want my boys to feel like their childhood was constantly rushed.
I don't want them to feel like we were always running.
I don't want them to wonder why I didn't play with them more.
I want them to feel like we did a lot of great things together as a family, like eating dinner.
I hope they remember their excitement when we,
took a bike ride on this beautiful, fall school night.
how we rode to Panera to eat dinner because it was too perfect outside not to.
and how we topped off the evening with frozen yogurt and a walk through our favorite field.
the first photo was taken the day before the other images, but it speaks volumes to me about how I am feeling right now.
the rest were taken....on a beautiful school night.
"In the midst of rushing around to get everyone out the door this morning, this stopped us in our tracks.
It was a reminder that we must slow down and pause,
if only for a moment to enjoy beauty that surrounds us."
I love this girl so much.
I have always been a fan of her gorgeous work and I'm lucky to call her my friend. Hop on over and see what Alana Strouse
has captured for October.
