My Dearest Adrik,
Today you are 5 years old and you fill my heart with so much love and gratitude. You are a hilarious, smart and creative little man. You make us all laugh. This year you will be starting kindergarten and I know you will make so many friends and win the heart of your teacher with your sweetness.

You love to dance, you love dinosaurs and you especially love the Force Awakens.
I love to watch you play. You set up all of your army guys, Star Wars squinkies, and dinosaurs to battle, you have an incredible imagination.  You are rebellious and shy at the same time and when your heart is hurt, you feel it deeply.

For our birthday date you wanted to go to COSI, it's your favorite place to play. We ate at First Watch, then COSI, Jenni's for ice cream and ended at the fountains as it was such a hot day.

It was a magical day, with lots of chatter. You never stop chattering and I love that, I hope it never stops.

My hope for you is that you will always live to laugh and love as you do right now. Daddy and I are so proud of you and we will always be here to listen to all you amazing stories and dreams.

I love you more than all the stars in the sky my sweet boy.

Love Mama

My Dearest Kaiden,
Today you have hit the double digits, and my heart is full of emotions. You are becoming everything that I have always hoped and have known you would become. You are a natural leader that everyone loves and wants to follow. I remember when you were little you felt things so deeply, and that hasn't changed as you grow.

You love football and basketball, Daddy and I love to watch you play. I love that you love to read and you are an amazing big brother. You are stubborn like your mama at times, but I think that will give you courage to stand up for yourself as you go through life. We have so many amazing adventures ahead of us and I embrace each memory that we make with you.

You love adventures and history, and so the Olentangy Caverns was a perfect spot for our birthday date. You have always carried an old soul with you, and the history of the Wyandotte Native Americans really intrigued you. It was a perfect day spent talking and exploring. I will always be here for you to tell your stories, hopes and dreams. Please never stop dreaming and going after those dreams, because this life is short,  and my hope is that you will always be happy, kind and empathetic.  Daddy and I are so proud of the sweet 10 year old you have become.

I love you more than all the stars in the sky.

Love, Mama

My Dearest Kk,
How is it that you are seven already? I think back to when you were little, and it doesn't seem all that long ago. The years are flying by, but that's okay, because we have had and will have so many more amazing moments together.  Sometimes I watch you creating, dancing or playing soccer and it makes my heart skip a beat. You are sweet, feisty, a bit stubborn and you hate to be rushed or told what to do. You are honest and upfront with everyone and I love that about you.

You continue to be an amazing soccer player, it comes so naturally for you. Your dream is to play for the Columbus Crew and if you dream it and go after it, then it will happen. I look forward to the day that Daddy and I are in the stands cheering you on at the Crew Stadium.

Our birthday date is my favorite day of the year. To have you all to myself for the day, is such a blessing, you are a blessing. I love hearing your hopes, dreams and worries.  Know that I am always here for you, and I will love you unconditionally for the rest of my life.

My hope for you is that you continue to be affectionate, balanced and gentle. You make Daddy and I so proud everyday.
There are many amazing adventures ahead of you because you are so incredibly special.

I love you more than all the stars in the sky.
Love, Mama

My Dearest Adrik,
Today you are FOUR, and four really marks the age of moving out of toddler-hood and into little boy-hood, it kills me.

You love dinosaurs, your babies, animals and riding your motorcycle. You also love to go on bike rides and ride in the buggy. You would cuddle with Mama all day if I let you.

You are very observant. Things that you see stay etched in your memory forever, just like Daddy.
You can be very emotional and you live in a world of your own, with your incredible imagination. I love watching you make up worlds for your toys to live in.

Your brothers wanted to go to Build-A-Bear workshop for their birthday dates, so of course you did as well. You love your brothers, but you don't follow all that they do. You have your own ideas and your own likes, and you don't care if you play by yourself instead of joining the crowd.
We ate lunch at Panera, your favorite place for soup and bread, then we ended the day with ice cream at Creekside.

I love your chatter, you chatter A LOT.  I hope you never stop talking to me, I love your stories and how they are not always reality but always creative.

You will always be our baby and I'm having a  very hard time letting you grow up, but Mama and Daddy will love you the whole way.

I love you more than all the stars in the sky our sweet little man.

~Mama

This is your last year in single digits.  I can still remember your sweet face as a toddler and your little voice...I can still hear it.  However now, you are growing at a rapid rate. I suspect you will be taller than me in a few short years and will eventually be taller than Daddy as well. You have the most amazing eyes and eye lashes that go on forever. I love your crooked smile, and I'm sad that soon that innocent smile will be corrected with braces.

My hope for you is that you continue to be exactly who you are becoming, strong, kind, modest, innovative, smart, we are so, very proud of you.

You love Pokemon, the Cavaliers, the Steelers , traveling, camping, and playing outdoors.  I am in awe at the way you love animals, you are very gentle with them and they are drawn to you. You still blow me kisses and hold my hand, even if not quite as tight and for as long, it's still there and I will hold on as long as I can.

You wanted to get a Cavalier Build a Bear, and I was happy to oblige that sweetness. You named him Little Cav. We then had to make a pit stop at Trader Joes before lunch. You are a great shopper. I remember loving to grocery shop with Mimi when I was little and I love having that same feeling with you. You love BBQ like Daddy, so we got City BBQ for lunch and took it down to Creekside. It was a beautiful day with dandelion fuzzies blowing all around us. Our final stop was Cold Stone and the Pigskin, with ice cream for you and an amber ale for me.

The rest of the day was spent hanging out together and talking. I never want us to stop talking, I hope you continue to talk my ear off, for the rest of my life.

It was such a great day, I look forward to these dates all year with you and your brothers, and I am so lucky to call you my son.

I love you more than all the stars in the sky my sweet little man.

My Dearest KK,
6? Your number is now on two hands! I cannot believe that. You are artistic, athletic, sweet, fun and incredibly smart.
You fill my heart with  love and happiness when I see you drawing, playing with legos, playing soccer or simply sleeping...
I still sneak in at night and run my fingers through your thick hair and over your chubby cheeks, you used to purr like a kitten when I would do that when you were a baby.

We weren't sure if we wanted to send you to kindergarten this year or next year with your hearing aid being a part of your life. We didn't want you to struggle. We are blown away at how intelligent and self sufficient you are. You have done amazing this year and we're so happy we decided to let you fly.

I couldn't be prouder of the little boy you are becoming.

You said you wanted to go to the Creekside Cafe' for breakfast and then to Build a Bear workshop for your birthday date, and we ended the day with Jeni's lavender ice cream. These dates have become my favorite days of the year with you and your brothers, and I was excited myself to see how the building of a bear actually worked. You decided on the Captain America Bear and quickly fell in love with "Blues."

It was a perfect day spent with my perfect little man and I never want to forget you as 6.
I love you more than all the stars in the sky my sweet Kk.

My Dearest Adrik,

When did you get so big? You are my baby and the thought of you becoming such a big boy makes me well up. You are a funny little man and I just want to eat you up most of the time, except when you're having your 3 year old fits. I wish I could keep you little forever. We are in the process of potty training. You aren't loving it, but you're not hating it either. You will be heading to preschool next year. I feel like it is all downhill from there as far as you growing up. Once the school years start, the years fly by even more quickly it seems.

Animals are still a great love for you. When I asked you where you wanted to go for your birthday date, you said "the farm." So that's where we went. You get so excited for animals, especially farm animals. You squealed with delight when you saw all the farm cats, chickens and especially the baby goats.

You said you wanted soup and a smoothie for lunch, so that's what we ate.

You make my heart skip a beat when you smile and that dimple on your right cheek caves in. I watch you and your brothers when you're sleeping and wonder what you will grow up to be. You have a wonderful mind and I know you will be brilliant at whatever you choose do do in life. I hope you are always as sweet and empathetic as you are at this moment. I wish for you to be a happy your whole life.

I love you more than all the stars in the sky my sweet boy and I am so proud to be your mama.

~Mama

My Dearest Kaiden,

Eight is such a big number...and when did you get so tall? I see you changing before my eyes, everyday. You still hold my hand, but not quite as tight as you once did. You still blow me a kiss when you leave my classroom in the morning to go up to yours, but I wonder when the day will come that you won't find it necessary.

There was a tragedy at school this week. I could tell it bothered you, you have so much love in your heart. I pray that never changes. As I stood in line at the showing, a picture of the family came on the screen. It was when the boy who died was little, he was probably 3 or 4. I broke down. I just couldn't bare the thought of that ever being you or your brothers. You are my world. I hope you know there will never be anything so terrible that we can't work out, and I will always be here for you no matter how big or little the situation.

You love to read, particularly Diary of a Wimpy Kid. You want to do the book club with the Columbus Metropolitan Library this summer, I love that. I love that you don't let your friends influence you. You do your own thing. You are empathetic and caring, but strong at the same time. You love our adventures and I hope that never dies. I want you to get out and explore this beautiful world....but be VERY, VERY careful. ;)

Our birthday date was so lovely. We ate at Old Bag of Nails on the water and then we finally did the paddle boats. You said that was your favorite part of the day. I took you to the part of town that Daddy and I lived for 8 years, Clintonville, and showed you the places I used to take Skyy when she was a puppy. I could tell you felt how much those places meant to me, and I could tell they now meant something to you. We got our favorite Wildberry Lavender cone from Jeni's and then we popped in at Barnes and Noble.

I can't put into words properly how proud of you I am. I watch you often, I watch your eyes and I can tell how deeply you feel and think and it simply melts my heart. You are such a gift to Daddy and I and we are so lucky to be your parents.

I love you more than all the stars in the sky my sweet boy.

Love, Mama

My sweet KK,

Today you are 5 and I am full of emotions. It's hard to believe that five short years ago you were safe inside of me. You fill me will so much laughter and joy. I cherish your smile, it's so genuine and full of pure love. You are an amazing soccer player and you have little fear of anything. But your soul is gentle and sweet. I worry for you that it will get broken, but you are a strong little man right now, and I know you will grow into a sweet but strong man as well.

I love the tradition that we started last year, me taking you and your brothers on a birthday dates. I so look forward to the one on one time with you. The days are turning into years more quickly than ever before and I'm grasping at your childhood with every ounce of love that I can. I hope you will look back at these dates and remember that we laughed, we ate, we talked and most of all that I listened and loved every moment that we shared.

When I asked you what you wanted to do for your birthday date, you said "make art." It filled my heart with happiness but not because I care if you grow up to be an artist, but that you find peace when you're creating, you could spend hours coloring. I hope that you always find joy in creating, it's an outlet that will feed your soul.

You are our precious KK and we are so proud and in love with who you are. Next year you will head off to kindergarten and I feel so lucky that I will be at your school to watch over you and help you grow into an amazing little boy.

I wish nothing more than happiness for you...I love you more than all the stars in the sky.

Love, Mama

Last year I became wonderful friends with the special ladies of our 10 on 10 project. We wanted to go a different direction with our project and remain together, so we have started The Kaleidoscope Project. This month was a letter to my little man, I love that this project allows us to have no barriers and to be different from month to month.

"Kaleidoscope" is derived from the Ancient Greek (kalos) "beautiful,"
that which is seen, shape (skopeō), hence "observation of beautiful forms."

Dearest Adrik,

This was the day we took the side off your crib.

It hit me hard, I cried...hard.

The baby days are officially over for us.

I have a ache in my heart because of it.

The nursery has been the nursery for the past 8 years. Life at the moment is getting a little easier with you and your brothers growing up. But I will always long for those nights when I nursed you into the wee hours of the night in that room. This summer we will make your room into your very own big boy room. The mural I painted for KK when he was born, will be painted over and a new chapter will begin.

It's very difficult for me to let go of the baby days, but I'm in love with seeing you and your brothers grow up into these sweet, empathetic, amazing boys.

You were so excited to be able to climb in and out of your bed all by yourself.

You loved piling your babies in and cuddling with them.

And even though you can get in and out on your own, you still call for me when you wake.

I'll take it...no need to rush too much independence.
